BIG BOWL ICE ( DA-ONE-GONG in Mandarin) was first established in 1995 in the city of Kaohsuing, the southern most city of Taiwan. The original outlet, situated just a block from the passenger ferry terminal, used to be an ice making factory. The factory was situated there as Kaohsuing in the 70’s and 80’s was a fishing port, and approximately 100 boats would daily pull up to the wharf to discharge and sell their catch. Given the hot and humid climate, coupled with their limited income at the time, shaved ice with a variety of toping was a good way for people to cool down. The soon to be originator of DaOneGong thought he had a better idea on how to provide a more enjoyable refreshing treat for potential customers. Combining shaved ice with a range of syrup flavours and many different varieties of fruit provided that product. Further enhancements included a range of snow ice in various flavours, ice cream, chocolate sauce, cookies and sprinkles. The menu now has well over 100 different choices. And lots of satisfied customers. You can order your choice based on size and the number of friends with you. You can have individual orders or you can have a single order for two, four, six, ten and thirty. And yes there are also fruit drinks available ranging in size from the 1000cc Challenge Cup to the 5000cc World Cup. The resultant product line has become well established and accepted by customers throughout Taiwan, and now is available in mainland China and Malaysia. Future plans include expansion to the remainder of SE Asia as well as India. In our proprietary method of preparation we boil brown sugar into syrup, adding it to diamond ice, snow ice, handmade grass jelly, handmade sweet bean curd and a variety of fresh fruit. All of this is done in a very hygienic environment. We also serve fruit based refreshing drinks. As as testament to our quality and progress the following have occurred:1995 – first store opening in Kaohsuing: 2005 – first franchise store opens; 2006 – won city achievement for best ice dessert; 2011 – won National Excellent Commodities Gold Medal; 2013 – Malaysia outlets open in Malacca and Johor Bahru; and; 2016 – there are 60+ outlets in Taiwan, plus Hainan island, and mainland China.; |
